Everything You Need to Know Before Your Appointment

At Excellence Eye Care, we’re committed to providing high-quality, patient-focused vision care. Whether you’re visiting us for the first time or returning for a routine check-up, this guide will help you prepare for your appointment. Here’s what to expect regarding exam duration, costs, insurance coverage, and what to bring with you.

How Long Will My Eye Exam Take?

A comprehensive eye exam typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes. We work hard to stay on schedule and minimize your waiting time.

If you're interested in browsing our optical gallery for glasses or contact lenses, we recommend allowing some extra time after your appointment to explore your options and complete your order.

Exam costs vary depending on the services you require:

  • Children (19 and under) and seniors (65 and older) are eligible for an annual comprehensive exam covered by OHIP. In some cases, seniors may be eligible every 18 months depending on their diagnosis.
  • Adults (ages 20–64) may qualify for OHIP-covered exams if they have specific medical conditions (like diabetes), active eye conditions (like glaucoma), or are taking certain medications (such as Plaquenil).

Pricing details:

  • New patients must undergo a comprehensive exam including imaging.
  • If not covered by OHIP: $150
  • If covered by OHIP: $40 imaging fee
  • Existing patients (seen within the past year) needing a problem-focused or partial exam: $60

Whenever possible, we’ll attempt direct billing to your insurance provider.

For the most up-to-date pricing, we encourage you to contact our office prior to your appointment.

Where Are We Located?

You’ll find Excellence Eye Care conveniently situated in Millway Plaza (also known as the Giant Tiger Plaza) on Erin Mills Parkway at South Millway, just north of Dundas. Free parking is available to make your visit easy and stress-free.

What Insurance Plans Do You Accept?

We accept most major insurance providers and offer direct billing for many group plans.

However, coverage details can vary depending on your employer’s agreement, so we recommend confirming your benefits with your insurance provider before your visit.

How Often Should I Have an Eye Exam?

Routine eye exams are essential for early detection of vision changes and maintaining long-term eye health.

We recommend:

  • Adults (20–64): Every two years
  • Children (6 months–19 years), seniors (65+), and adults with medical conditions: Annually

Your optometrist will advise you on the ideal timeframe for your next visit at the end of your appointment.

What Should I Bring to My Eye Exam?

Please bring the following to ensure a smooth and thorough appointment:

  • Health card and insurance card
  • Current glasses and/or prescription
  • List of medications you’re taking
  • Current contact lenses or packaging (if applicable)

Having these items allows us to assess your vision accurately and provide the best recommendations for your eye health.

Can My Family Book Appointments Together?

Absolutely! We encourage family eye care and are happy to accommodate multiple family members in one visit when possible.

Typically, we schedule two family members per appointment slot to ensure each patient receives personalized attention.

Please contact our office to discuss the best scheduling options for your family.
