What Does a Typical Day in Your Clinic Look Like?
There really isn’t a “typical” day. Some days we are very busy at the optical center, while some days are filled with senior appointments from referrals. The one constant is performing comprehensive eye exams every day, as well as helping people understand their specific eye health. We also fit patients with glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. So much goes on that no two days are truly the same.
What New Technologies Does Your Practice Utilize?
One of the biggest benefits of running a new practice is that we use the latest, brand-new technology to give our patients the very best in eye care. Among the many top-line technologies we have are two devices that we are so proud of: the OCT (ocular coherence tomographer) and the visual field analyzer. Previously, patients would have to go to an ophthalmologist to have these tests done, but now we can easily perform these tests in-office during a routine visit.
What’s The Best Part of Providing Primary Eye Care?
Our favorite part of providing primary eye care is watching how the families that come to see us grow over time. Often, just the mom or the dad will come as a patient. But over time, they bring in their own parents, and soon enough their children, and we are fortunate enough to ensure the visual health of the whole family.
How Do You Stay Up-To-Date With Any Changes in the Field?
Continuing education is really important in our profession, as it is in most medical fields. We joined the Canadian Association of Optometrists and attend their biannual Congress in Quebec, which is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow with other optometrists. There’s also the Optometric Symposium in Orlando, Florida, which we attend yearly and enjoy very much. Both in-person conventions like those, as well as keeping up with the latest studies in optometric journals and magazines, keep us up-to-date on any changes in the field.
What Does Excellence Eye Care Hope To Achieve?
Our main goal at Excellence Eye Care is to continue to provide quality eye care to our existing patients and ones that we have yet to meet. We hope to do this for generations to come.
